NVIDIA Announces NIM: AI Software Platform for Developers

NVIDIA has unveiled a new AI-driven software platform named “NIM,” aimed at facilitating the swift transition of artificial intelligence technologies into production environments. This announcement came as part of the key highlights during the GTC 2024 events.

“NIM” by NVIDIA is designed to expedite the process of transferring pre-trained AI models to production settings. This development promises substantial time savings for developers.

NVIDIA points out that deploying AI models into production environments typically takes weeks. NIM addresses this challenge by providing a solution for companies looking to fast-track their artificial intelligence initiatives, thereby significantly speeding up the deployment process.

NVIDIA’s newly introduced software platform, NIM, is already equipped to support AI models from a diverse range of sources, including NVIDIA itself, A121, Adept, Cohere, Getty Images, and Shutterstock. Additionally, it extends support to open-source AI models from prominent tech entities such as Google, Hugging Face, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral AI, and Stability AI.

However, NIM’s expansion is ongoing, with efforts to collaborate with major companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft for further support and integration.

Moreover, NVIDIA plans to offer various microservices through NIM. For instance, companies will have the capability to utilize Riva for tailoring speech and translation models, and Earth-2 for conducting weather and climate simulations.

The company also announced plans to broaden these offerings. For example, the RAG LLM architecture will be made compatible with NIM, enabling the creation of generative AI chatbots.
